What Is Rheumatology Nursing?
Rheumatology nursing: a vocation, a profession, a passion.
Our passion is to provide to our patients the services that will promote, maintain, and restore the most optimal state of health and well being that is achievable.
To accomplish this end, we must be prepared in the scientific basis of nursing and meet certain prescribed standards of education and clinical competence.
The advent of biologic medications is changing the landscape of treatment in rheumatology and this change is altering the description of rheumatology nursing.
Rheumatology nursing as a whole is comprised of educated professionals who serve as patient counselors, patient educators, and patient advocates, responsible for delivering the best nursing care available in the safest possible way. To achieve this end, we continue to learn to educate each other and to be an integral member of the healthcare team, and as such we can make a significant positive change in the lives of patients with a rheumatologic disease.
